H. P. Day

Ashley and Ryan - Ace of Cakes apprentices

Allow me to decipher: Happy Pioneer Day. Yesterday was the 24th of July and Ashley informs me that it is an official government holiday in her home state. You gotta love Utah. To celebrate the pioneers yesterday Ashley and Ryan decided to be like Duff from Ace of Cakes and make a covered wagon cake. It actually turned out surprisingly well. It was a 3D cake, chocolate icing on the bottom and white chocolate icing on the top; pecan sandies for the wheels.

It was good. But then Ryan decided to take things a step further and make a marshmallow pioneer. Then Ashley had to compete. She gave the wagon canvas stripes to simulate a wood frame. Working together the mallo pioneer next was given a twizzler rope whip for the horses, then another was added to the other hand to make reigns. The reigns were then attached to an olive wood camel from Jerusalem, because that made so much more sense than the plastic dinosaur that they had toyed with before the camel. Ryan then pushed it too far (no, for them a dinosaur attached by licorice to a marshmallow pioneer on a cake wagon is not out of the ordinary). He wrote "H. P. Day" in black icing on top of the covered wagon. Like it was a billboard. And the cake mania was done. There was no where else to go from there. So we ate it.

A delicious tribute to the Pioneers.
