christmas lights

Note the flying pig in the top right corner.

So tonight a group of us went to go see Christmas lights in the area. One thing that has stood out to me is the lack of houses covered in lights. It seems like at home most people put lights on their houses, but out here you are lucky to get 50% of a neighborhood. And that is being generous. Crazy East Coasters. I searched the internet to find a neighborhood that was known for its lights like Candy Cane Lane or the place up by Grandma and Grandpa's old house. The best I could find is a street that two neighbors had very elaborate light displays. One of them had the display set to music. That was pretty cool.

Me, Rob, Billy, Steph and the ugliest Christmas tree in the free world.

Next we went to the National Christmas Tree. It was freezing. Freezing. Like windchill trying to take off my ears. Santa was there in a warm trailer taking pictures with the kids (and us - any warm port in a storm). They also have a big fire pit to stand by and re-warm. The fire was divine, it smelled delicious. The main reason I go to the Ellipse is to see all the state trees; I may or may not take pleasure in making fun of the ornaments.

Me and the CA state tree representing. We talked. Neither of us like the windchill out here. Both of us would rather be back in Tahoe.

The Ellipse all decorated for the season. The smaller trees are the state trees, the big one is the National Christmas tree and of course, and of course the White House is in the background.

Last stop for the night was the DC Temple. It was more beautiful this year than ever before. They switched to LED lights in the prettiest, brightest colors, tightly wound around the trees of the visitors center. Also they lined the trees leading up to the temple with white lights, it was pretty. Billy was worried that the Mormons would try to convert him if he stayed outside too long so he and Steph took a look and then ran back to the car. Rob on the other hand was not worried about it. We admired the new LED colors (the purple was awesome) and took some cool pictures of them.
