Just when you thought I could not get any stranger... Some people have cute flowery things attached to the pull chains on their fans to lengthen the cord. I have a rubber chicken. It is funny. Every night I pull the rubber chicken to shut off the light to go to bed. Not only is it entertaining, it is a little reminder of home and more specifically of my Dad's sense of humor (which I inherited. That might explain a little bit).
My brother served his mission for our church in Mexico City. When he was done, my parents went to pick him up and see where he had been serving the last two years of his life. While there my Dad saw a vendor selling these rubber chickens and decided they were hilarious and that his kids at home needed one. So for Christmas that year we each received, among other things, the above yellow rubber chicken. Now I cannot vouch for the rest of the siblings, but obviously I have put mine to good use.
What does it say about me, that I have gotten more use out of the rubber chicken than the purse they also brought back and gave us each that Christmas? Don't answer that.
Addendum from my Dad:
We were driving in the capital of the state of Mexico, I can't remember the town, and there were some people selling these little yellow chickens, I did not get any then, but it was so unusual, that it made me think of Mexico. A couple days later we were at the floating gardens with a Mexican family of David's and we found the rubber chickens again, so being inexpensive I bought one for everyone. I'm glad to see that you treat yours as a thing of utility as well as beauty.

Cam... in defense of the gift...it wasn't a 'purse' - it is a tote bag! And thanks for clarifying for everyone who you got your sense of humor from - you're dead on! Love Mom PS: Our rubber chicken is hanging off our mirror over the dresser!
i used my rubber chicken and used to hang it from the middle of the living room in my old apartments... i'm pretty sure one of my roommates threw it away because after many complaints and me not removing it... it went missing... i did put it to good use though as long as i could!
