My mom came to town this week. It was really fun. We toured a little and relaxed a little and ate a lot. Monday was spent adjusting to the time zone and hanging out at the dentist office (my mom lost her crown on the flight over). Tuesday we headed into DC to tour the Washington Monument.

We took an elevator 550 feet in the Monument to the observation deck. There we were able to get a birds-eye view of the nation's capitol. The White House was to the north, Capitol to the east, Jefferson Memorial to the south, and the Lincoln and WWII Memorials to the west. Also (middle inset picture) you could see the DC Temple from there!

We then headed to the World War II Memorial. Last time my mom was in town this was just being finished, instead of water there were orange cones. I am not sure what the significance of that day was, but there were a lot of veterans at the memorial. It really brought it home to see those men who served during that war. My grandpa was a veteran. It made us think of him and miss him.

There were school children there on a field trip who had thank you cards they had made for the veterans. It was touching to see the happy smiles on the veterans faces when they saw that they were still appreciated. It was really sweet; I thought that was a great idea.
