My Dad is cool. My Dad makes army tanks.
How is that for bragging rights? Every once in a while he gets to take a trip to York PA and check on what I thought was a company they contract with, to make sure they were correctly making what I thought was an electrical nerdy box of some kind. It has been a while since he has had a business trip there, so when he got the chance to come to the East Coast today, I was excited.
I drove in three terrible hours of soul-killing traffic up to York tonight to have dinner with my Dad. He took me by the factory he was visiting where, I learned that they were not making little electronic boxes, they were making full on army tanks. As we drove the street to the plant there were nice single family homes with big yards on one side of the road and a barb wire fence holding in an army of tanks on the other side. It was kind of surreal. It was cool to see a couple of the buildings where they were putting together the tanks and armored vehicles (top picture).
We then proceeded to Smokey Bones where we stuffed ourselves with good BBQ. For dessert we hit a homemade ice cream shop that my Dad had noticed in his commuting. My Dad loves loves ice cream. I got chocolate peanut butter ice cream in a pretzel cone. Sounds like the perfect combination of sweet and salty right?!? Not really, it was too salty. I was sad. But the ice cream was delicious. Dad got double fudge. While we could not figure out what was double about the seemingly-plain chocolate ice cream, he said it was good too. It was awesome hanging out with my Dad.
