pig roast

Last night was the Second Annual Family Pig Roast. They cooked an entire pig out on the grill. Tom tells me that he went and picked the pig out himself, took it home and killed it, then cooked it up. I may believe the first part, am pretty sure the second part is a lie, and the picture below shows that he did indeed cook an entire pig.

The Pig Roast was at Tom's parents house. They live out in the country in a beautiful area. Their house is on a hill with some fields to the west and a wooded area surrounding the rest. I am in love with their place. My favorite part is a porch off the west side of the house with ivy growing over the pergola and a couple of rocking chairs. It is beautiful when the the sun starts setting and you get the dusk light hitting it. I can only imagine sitting on that porch, rocking and watching the sun set over the green country valley.

What made the pig so great was that it was soaked in Tom's mom's homemade BBQ sauce. It is the best, a staple in our firehouse. Most of our shift from the FD was there (plus a ton of people I did not know) and my friend Steph came with me. It was nice to have a female friend on my side, I'm used to having to hold my own alone around the boys. Don't get me wrong, they are great, but they are a bunch of boys.

The boys taught Steph all about Mormon's. It was pretty entertaining, they would start out with a nugget of truth that they had learned and then spin it into tall tales of Moroni and his bugle. Oh well, I tried to teach them. And yes, Dave though it would be hilarious to put a beer in front of me for the picture. They threatened to send this picture to Salt Lake and get me in trouble.

I have no idea who this is, but she is the cutest little girl ever. She wandered around with her binky in upside down, holding her teddy bear all night. I wanted to take her home.

Christine (Joe's wife) and Joe (firefighter/master of chest compressions) awaiting firework.

When night fell, we got ready for fireworks. People set up on the porch and lawn and watched in entertainment as a spark would light a fuse and then a little silhouette would scamper down the hill and take cover from the impending explosion.

It was a fun night. We went home, full, entertained, and exhausted.
