shark cake

Steph's birthday was earlier in the month, but I am just now getting around to blogging about it. Steph has an irrational fear of sharks fed by Discovery Channel's Shark Week every year. Possibly in an attempt to get over this fear, Steph requested this shark cake for her big day. For the record, this year she turned 24 years old.


Her birthday fell in my week of cake H-E-double-hockey-sticks. I figured as long as I was making a million cakes, what was another, so I added Steph's cake to the list. The real work though was done by none other than the creative cake decorator Ashley. It is the brain child of the book Hello Cupcake. The sharks are twinkies and the life preservers are mini doughnuts; that book is ingenious. It is also the book behind the spaghetti cake and alligator cupcake.


The birthday girl loved it! And I think she felt empowered attacking a shark (instead of it attacking her).
