See the tall mountain in the background, the further away one? Okay, maybe mountain is a slight exaggeration. But Virginia doesn't know what mountains are. So see the really really tall hill in the background?

We hiked it. Lets call it a foothill. The hike is called Old Rag Mountain, it's a favorite of ours. The first half is a gradual incline turning into switchbacks through a wooded forest area.

Eventually it leads you above the tree line to a nice little out look, but this is just the beginning of the beauty. Myself, Ashley and Kim took advantage of the great (humidity-free) spring weather to get outside and hike. Greatest. Idea. Ever.

It was pouring at home the night before so Ashley and I almost backed out of the hike, but Kim said we should still try it. And we were all glad she did. I forgot how much I love hiking. I mean look at the view of the Virginia countryside. Beautiful!

The second part of the hike is climbing up, squeezing through, jumping over, all these great boulders. It was so fun and more reminiscent of hiking in the west. I like the challenging of trying to figure out how to get through the obstacles.

The view from about 3/4 of the way up. It was such a nice day! I like the little spots where the clouds are casting shadows on the floor of the valley. This hike is beautiful in the fall too with all the colored leaves on the trees below.

Hi, Kim! For more pictures of our hike, see
Kim's blog here.

There were some pretty buds along the path too.

This is a really really technical picture of the exact way that we hiked up the mountain. As we got to the top we could not believe how far we had come. We hiked 8.4 miles total.

Kim contemplating life. We could have stayed at the summit for a long time but the view is on the windward side and it is quite, um, windy. So we headed back down to finish the loop.

Seriously - on top of the world. I should hike more. And Virginia should have good weather more. Good plan. Bad grammar.

Roommate picture. We had a great time on
Old Rag Mountain. Thanks for encouraging us to go Kim! Afterwards we drove back and gobbled down Pei Wei.
Yum.

looks beautiful! We are doing our fair share of hiking here as well. Wednesday we did and I was totally nervous we would see a rattlesnake, but thank goodness we didn't. I would have FREAKED! (That's desert hiking for ya.)
How beautiful! I would love to hike that sometime. I have to get into better shape first. Yikes:)
So pretty. If you're around here you should join us. There are great trails all around! Yay for spring!!!
