This morning we woke up to this. The weather man predicted it. People rushed to the store the day before to buy enough milk and toilet paper to last them a month. Virginians are crazy. It actually started last night as were were headed to ICE!

It was slated to snow all day. I was excited to sit at home and enjoy watching the snow but Ashley, a true Utahn, started shoveling right away. She said if you don't get ahead of it then it builds up and is harder later.

A couple of hours after the shoveling, it looked like she had never shoveled. This is the view down the street. Ashley gave the driveway another once over so we could head over to a friends to have snow day party.

Ashley and her 4wd Explorer navigated us through the streets like it was the middle of summer. We watched as little cars slid into embankments or spun in place with their 2wd. We were the most impressed with the mailman out delivering the mail. I guess the saying "neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds." really is true.

Once there, we realized that we didn't have milk. So we headed out into the snow again to walk to the 7-11. We opened Ryan's front door and found this. So Ashley and her Utahn AR tendencies insisted on shoveling his steps before we go out.

Just thought it was cool how the snow was so fierce it piled up on the doorknob. It was such a fun day with all the snow! We all reverted back to childhood as we threw snowballs and stomped through the snow.

With milk in hand we headed back to Ryan's, made french toast, sausage, hot chocolate and watch the greatest modern day Christmas movie ever - Elf.
I love that movie. We laughed all the way though it.

After we left Ryan's we headed back home. Ashley and I took turns shoveling the driveway and then I decided that it might be a good idea to clear off my car
for the second time today. Yes, all that accumulation was in the 4 hours we were at Ryan's.

So we shoveled. And shoveled.
And shoveled. For like two hours. Literally. The cool thing is that everyone was out shoveling snow. I saw more of my neighbors that day than I had all year. The neighbor kids made tunnels through the 4 foot pile of snow we had accumulated from the driveway.

We aren't actually smiling, we were cringing from the snow falling in our eyes and our faces froze this way. Yeah. Not really. It was fun. Snow is fun. For a couple of days. I don't think I would want to do this all winter.

By the time we came in this was the state of our backyard. It was so cool. Pristine and untouched. While Ashley decided that the position of choice was horizontal I decided to have one last snow adventure. The snow on the deck was up to my kneecaps. I resisted the urge to sit in the chair and pretend like I was eating the table full of snow.

It was a super fun day!
