Holy Cow by Chip Simons
An approximate recollection of the phone call I received this morning from a number I didn't recognize but luckily picked up:
Me: Hello?
Him: Hi Camille. It's Sean from Associated in Emergency Care, I was just calling about the class you signed up for.
Impressed that they were giving a reminder call for a two day refresher class.
Me: Yeah, the ACLS class at PWH tomorrow right?
Sean: No, the Intermediate to Paramedic Bridge class at Quantico that started today.
Slight panic and a little bit of confusion.
Me: That starts NEXT Monday right?
Knowing that was right because I had been looking forward to this last week of freedom before a torturously busy six months of class.
Sean: No, it started today. You didn't show up so I wanted to make sure you were going to be there for tomorrow's first day.
Frantically flipping through my organizer. Tears of panic starting to well up in my eyes thinking I had missed the MANDATORY first day of class. Hyperventillating thinking about starting class NOW instead of next week. I'M NOT READY FOR THIS!
Me: I must have written it down wrong, I had it starting next monday.
Freaked out that I had already written down the entire 6 month schedule in my organizer IN PEN potentially ALL running a week behind schedule.
Sean: In the letter we sent you the start date is today. It was on the website for the 18th start date, but that was changed.
Well that could make sense, I wrote it all down from the schedule posted online after I had been accepted. I didn't really take a second glance at the dates when I got the official acceptance letter three weeks ago. Why would they change an entire class schedule three weeks before it started?
Me: Okay.
So much for studying EKG rhythm strips today.
He said more here, but my mind was still reeling.
Sean: So we will see there you tomorrow?
I am screwed.
Me: Okay.
All I can say is okay.
My body is in shock.
The emotional kind.
So. Lets turn this horrible turn of events into something happy.
Happy thing #1. While it does start early, there is only the one day of class this week.
Happy thing #2. Remember how the commute is going to be so much better going opposite of traffic down to Quantico instead of with traffic for two hours to Manassas like you did last time?
Happy thing #3. No worries, you can go to class monday OR tuesday and wednesday OR thursday. They're the same classes being taught. This schedule is AWESOME! You didn't miss the first day of class today, you just missed the first opportunity to go to the first day of class.
Happy thing #4. You already had the day half of tomorrow off work for ACLS class, so you can just go to EMT-P class instead. No worries!
Happy thing #5. Now you don't have to spend today studying rhythm strips.
Okay. I feel somewhat better. I'm going to go eat Arby's. I'm going to get a French Dip and large Diet Dr. Pepper and bring it home and eat it while watching the Olympics. Now that's a happiness trifecta.
And yes Sarah, I called AND texted you to go to Arby's.
You are going to miss out. Pick up your phone next time!
